NORTH MANCHESTER – The Earlham College women's basketball team began the second half of its conference slate with an 80-62 loss at Manchester University on Saturday.
The Quakers fell to 0-13 (0-6 HCAC) while the Spartans improved to 7-7 (4-3 HCAC).
Three Quakers reached the double-digit points threshold, led by
Amari Bradford with 19.
Janaiya Bright followed with 13 points and
Neely Trenshaw scored 10.
Bradford and Bright also tallied a game-high seven rebounds in the loss.
The Quakers started sluggish, and trailed 11-0 after four minutes of play. The visitors responded with a 6-0 run spanning 1:18 of game time.
Manchester scored another hot streak in the quarter, but the Quakers responded once more to trail by five after 10 minutes of action.
Strong middle quarters by Earlham allowed the Quakers to keep the score within seven going into the final quarter. During the second and third frames, Earlham shot at 47% and 50% from the floor and made 2-of-5 3-point attempts.
Earlham closed the gap to 58-54 early in the final quarter before a 10-0 run by Manchester put the game out of reach for the visitors.
The Quakers hit the road again on Wednesday to take on the Grizzlies of Franklin College. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm.
