FRANKLIN – The Earlham College women's basketball team fell on the road to Franklin College 72-54 on Wednesday evening.
The Quakers slipped to 0-14 (0-7 HCAC) while the Grizzlies improved to 5-12 (3-7 HCAC).
Freshman
Alexis Gibson led the Quakers with a career-high 20 points and seven rebounds.
Amari Bradford led in rebounds with a career-high 14 boards.
The first quarter saw back-and forth action as the teams battled for the lead. Four lead changes took place in the opening frame and neither team led by more than three points.
After heading into the quarter break tied at 16, the Grizzlies gained traction in the second period. Franklin scored a 12-2 run spanning just under four minutes of game time to lead 35-27 at halftime.
The Grizzlies continued with a 17-3 run to start the third quarter and lead 52-30. The Quakers struggled to keep up with the high-powered Franklin offense down the stretch and shot 27.5% in the second half.
Earlham hosts Anderson University on Saturday as part of a doubleheader. The women's game tips off at 1 pm and will be followed by the men's contest at 3.
