RICHMOND – The Earlham College field hockey team battled Allegheny College in the Homecoming kickoff game on Saturday morning. The Gators came out of the matchup on top with a final score of 6-2.
Guin Schalck and
Regan Seeman both netted a goal for Earlham in the contest.
Allegheny put a goal in the cage in the ninth minute of play to begin the game. The Gators added a second goal in the 23rd minute to extend their lead.
Schalck scored in the 25th minute on a second-attempt shot that she was finally able to knock in to the cage.
Seeman scored in the opening minute of the fourth quarter on a loose ball in front of the Gator goal to bring the score to 3-2. The Gators later added three goals in the final frame.
Schalck led the team in shots with five, and placed four on goal.
Rachel Alma collected five saves in goal, and
Karina Steitz made one defensive save.
The Quakers were outshot 22-11 on the afternoon.
Earlham will continue its season tomorrow at home against Oberlin College. The match is slated for 1 pm.
