RICHMOND – Despite outshooting the Yeowomen 30-1 in Darrell Beane Stadium, the Earlham College field hockey team fell to Oberlin College in a shootout decider on Sunday.
Guin Schalck had a busy offensive day with 30 shot attempts, five of which were on goal.
Meredith McGraw also had opportunities with eight shots.
After both sides failed to score in regulation and the extra 20 minutes of overtime play, the shootout started. Earlham fell to 3-1 on the opening rounds, but
Rachel Alma made a critical stop while
Alyssa Johnson and
Karina Steitz made their scores to tie the shootout.
The Quakers missed their opening round of sudden death shootouts while Oberlin made the score to win the game.
Alma recorded her first shutout of the season in goal.
The Quakers drew 18 penalty corners on the day, including ten in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Earlham continues its season Tuesday evening against Denison University in Darrell Beane Stadium. The contest is slated for 5 pm.
