Freshmen lead WSOC rally against Ravens

RICHMOND – The Earlham College women's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit to tie in the season finale against Anderson University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Ravens struck an early goal in the opening minute of play. A goal in the 13th minute extended the lead for the visitors.

Two Quaker freshmen stepped up to the occasion in the second half to bring Earlham back into contention. Noelle Hooper found the back of the net with an unassisted score in the 63rd minute to bring EC back in to contention. Mallory Smith then got in on the scoring with a 68th-minute goal.

Earlham committed to defense in the closing minutes of the contest to secure the tie with the third place team in the conference.

The Quakers were outshot 27-4 and trailed in corner kicks 9-1.

Makayla Hurey made 10 saves in goal, and benefitted from a defensive save by Elizabeth Rakes in the 55th minute. The Ravens also had two shots in the second half that hit off a goalpost.

The Quakers finish their season 5-7-3 (3-5-1 HCAC) and take seventh place in the conference standings, one spot out of playoff competition.
