DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Earlham College track and field teams concluded their indoor season at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Defiance College.
The women's squad led the way in seventh place with 32 points while the men's team came home in ninth place with 23 points scored.
EC runners who wish to continue their indoor season will have an opportunity at the Ohio Northern last chance meet on Friday, March 4. The outdoor slate will begin on March 19 when the Quakers travel to Mount St. Joseph University for the MSJ Dual.
Here are the top performances of the day for the Quake:
Lyndsey Hermes recorded two fourth-place results in the short sprinting events. She ran a time of 10.84 seconds in the 60 meter hurdle final with a 3-step routine through the whole race. She then ran a time of 27.51 out of the second heat in the 200 meter dash.
Olivia Kyrk powered through to a fourth-place finish in the 400 meter dash while running in a slower heat. Kyrk recorded the fastest opening lap of the event but struggled to hold her pace while leading in her heat.
Madison Huelskamp scored solid points in both of her jumping events on the day. She began with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 9.52 meters. She then matched her finishing position in the long jump after a leap of 4.68 meters.
Shianna Bellingham brought home fifth place in the women's mile run. The junior finished with a time of 5:46.57, and was just over three seconds behind the race winner from Manchester.
Elena Stirn scored with an eighth-place showing in the 800 meter run. The sophomore finished third in her heat with a time of 2:34.25.
Hermes, Kyrk, Bellingham and Stirn combined in the 4x400 meter relay to finish in fifth position. Their final time was 4:30.02 with Kyrk clocking the fastest split with a 1:05.892.
Sheldan Lindsay reached the final of the 60 meter dash by clocking in a time of 7.09 and finishing second in heat number two. He carried that momentum into the final where he ran a 7.06 to finish in fourth place. He followed his performance up with another fourth-place in the 200 meter dash. Lindsay won his heat with a time of 23.21.
Freshman Connor Del Carmen scored the only podium finish of the day for the Quakers in the mile run. He held with the leaders for the opening six laps before falling slightly off in the final two. His finishing time was 4:32.5. Del Carmen also scored in the 3k race which was shortened to 2800 meters due to a scoring error. The freshman led for many of the early laps before being passed by a trio of Manchester runners for the finish. Del Carmen recorded a time of 8:23.35 and was comfortably ahead of the runners behind.
Blessed Shumba put together a seventh-place run in the triple jump after reaching a mark of 12.72 meters.
