RICHMOND – The Earlham College women's lacrosse team scored its first win of the 2022 season in Darrell Beane Stadium with a 12-11 victory over Asbury University on Thursday.
The Quakers improved to 1-1 while the Eagles fell to 0-4.
Serena Pisacano led the offensive effort with four goals and two assists on the afternoon.
Hannah Heyboer and
Mollie Lyon also had multi-goal showings with two each.
Mackenzie Kotch earned the win in goal after making seven saves.
Josie Whorton knocked in the first goal of the game just 45 seconds into the first quarter, assisted by Pisacano. The Eagles responded with two goals in the next four minutes.
Earlham scored a pair of goals near the end of the quarter to go back up 4-3 before Asbury tied the game in the final two minutes of the frame.
Pisacano won the draw control at the start of the second quarter and ran the ball down herself to score an unassisted goal in just 11 seconds. After a response goal from the Eagles, Earlham scored three goals off the sticks of Heyboer, Pisacano and
May Nicholson to lead 8-5.
Asbury's leading scorer, Grace Tatro, hit one more goal before halftime to bring the score to 8-6 at the break.
Heyboer recorded her second goal of the afternoon in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Eagles then found momentum and scored two goals in the frame while shutting out the home squad in the remainder of the quarter.
With the score tied at nine in the fourth quarter, Lyon tallied her first score of the season with an assist from Pisacano. Asbury responded with a free position goal three minutes later to leave the game tied again.
Lyon found the net again with 6:15 left on the clock to give Earlham another one-goal lead in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles responded again with a goal two minutes later.
With 2:47 on the clock, Pisacano collected a ground ball and scored the unassisted game-winner. The Quakers held possession as often as they could in the final two minutes and remained stout on defense to hold out for the win.
Earlham will be on the road this weekend against Muskingum University on Saturday. Start time is scheduled for 4 pm in New Concord, Ohio.
