RICHMOND – The Earlham College baseball team completed a clean sweep of Oberlin College with two wins on Sunday afternoon in Sadler Stadium.
The Quakers improved to 10-2 while the Yeomen fell to 4-6.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 15 OBERLIN 6
All three members of the Quaker outfield had three hits in the first game on four at-bats.
Nathan Lancianese recorded two RBI and two runs while
Jeordon Kuderer and
Robby Shondel both brought home three baserunners. The Quakers were walked 18 times with one hit by pitch.
Aidan Talarek started the game at pitcher and completed 6.1 innings with eight hits and three strikeouts.
George Dizard faced one batter in the seventh inning before
Chance Strickley finished things off and allowed only one baserunner in the final two innings.
The Quakers took the lead in the first inning with two runs being walked in by the Oberlin pitcher.
Leading 3-0, Earlham added two more scores in the bottom of the third after consecutive singles by Shondel and Kuderer.
Talarek's only struggles of the day came in the fourth inning when the Yeomen scored three runs after loading the bases with the first three batters. Oberlin scored an unearned run thanks to a passed ball to make the score 6-4 before catcher
Easton Embry fired to first base for a successful pick-off to end the outing.
The Quaker defense allowed just one unearned run the rest of the contest.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 6 OBERLIN 3
The Quakers saw a drop in success at the plate in game two with third baseman
Devin Basley leading the way with one hit and two RBI.
Dillon Fischer started on the mound and completed six innings with five strikeouts.
Earlham continued its scoring streak from the morning game with an RBI single to left field from Basley in the bottom of the first inning.
Oberlin took its only lead of the day in the top of the third inning when the Yeomen scored two runs with creative baserunning.
The Quakers responded with three runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead 4-2. Basely earned his second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to score
Maxwell Fries. Then Shondel advanced runners with a double to left field and
Andrew Sale put a ball in play to the third baseman to bring
Easton Embry to score.
An Embry double down the left field line scored another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the home squad a 5-2 lead.
A throwing error in the top of the sixth inning brought in the final Oberlin run of the game and the Quakers scored their final run due to a balk in the eighth inning.
Earlham is back in action with a single game against Wabash on Wednesday evening. First pitch is slated for 5 pm in Sadler Stadium.
