RICHMOND – The Earlham College baseball team fell to Wabash College 14-10 on a chilly Wednesday evening in Sadler Stadium.
The Quakers fell to 10-3 while the Little Giants improved to 10-2.
Robby Shondel brought home three runs on two hits on the evening,
Phoenix Guzzi also had two hits and two RBI.
David Lally got the start on the mound for Earlham and recorded four strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
Nate Hemmerich pitched two innings in relief and allowed two hits and tallied four strikeouts.
After placing just one baserunner in the first inning, the Little Giants put eight runners on the basepath in the second inning. A pair of errors helped allow Wabash to score five unearned runs off of three hits, and left three stranded on base.
Earlham got on the board and recorded a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Shondel hit a sacrifice fly to right field which allowed
Michael Medley to reach home. On the next play, Guzzi hit a single up the middle to bring
Jeordon Kuderer home for the score.
The Little Giants scored in the top of the third off of a two-run single to center field.
A single from Kuderer in the bottom of the fourth allowed Devin Basely to score and begin a four-run inning for the Quakers. Next up for the Quakers was Shondel who hit a two-RBI single to the first baseman who fell while making the play. After a pitching change from Wabash, the Quakers scored another run from a walk.
The Little Giants scored six runs from three hits and one error in the top of the fifth inning to establish a lead over the Quakers.
Easton Embry hit a solo home run over the Maroon Monster in left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to bring the score to 13-7.
Guzzi brought home another run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to center field. With the bases loaded Medley scored from a Wabash wild pitch. The Quakers recorded another score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning after speedy baserunning from Embry.
The visiting squad plated a final run in the top of the ninth off of a ground ball in the Quaker infield.
The Quakers will be back in action this weekend for a three-game series with Adrian College in Sadler Stadium.
