Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Gamber nets four in the snow

RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team fell to Centenary College 11-7 on a snowy Saturday afternoon in Darrell Beane Stadium. The Quakers trailed by a mark of 7-1 early in the third quarter, but closed the gap with three consecutive scores in the third quarter.

The Quakers fell to 2-5 while the Gents improved to 2-6.

Elijah Gamber popped off for four goals off of 11 shots for the Quakers. Fifth-year player Kevin Ventura also scored multiple goals with two off of five shots.

Donovan Shea led the defense with five caused turnovers and nine ground balls.

Emmitt Shaughnessy made 13 saves in the cage in 60 minutes of play.

The Gents scored the only goal in the first quarter at the 5:33 mark and never trailed throughout the contest.

Sam Sargent put the Quakers on the board with a man down goal with 14:20 remaining in the second quarter. Sargent ditched his typical attack role for a long stick on defense and carried the ball upfield from the defensive end for an unassisted score.

The Gents tallied off six goals in the second quarter and beginning of the third to lead 7-1. Gamber started a Quaker rally with two unassisted goals within a minute of each other in the third quarter. Ventura followed with a man up goal with an assist from Sargent to take the score 7-4.

Ventura struck for his second goal of the game with 10:25 remaining in the contest. With Earlham trailing 8-5, Centenary scored another three goals in the middle of the quarter.

Gamber brought the home squad closer with two goals in the final five minutes of play.

Earlham will continue its season at Trine University on Wednesday before returning to Darrell Beane Stadium on Saturday to host Alma College.
