RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team traded blows with Mount St. Joseph University in Darrell Beane Stadium to kick off the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference schedule on Saturday. The Lions came out victorious 13-8 after a second-half outburst on offense.

The Quakers fell to 2-7 (0-1 HCLC) while the Lions improved to 3-9 (1-1 HCLC).

Logan Reihing led the Earlham offense with three goals and two assists. Donovan Shea recorded six caused turnovers and 10 ground balls on defense.

Emmitt Shaughnessy made eight saves in goal.

The Quakers got into a hole early and trailed 2-0 at the quarter break. Two more goals from the Lions increased the deficit in the opening three minutes of the second quarter. Reihing notched the first Earlham goal at the 10:39 mark of the second quarter. Jacob Bandfield recorded his second career goal just 1:21 later with an assist from Reihing.

The Quaker streak continued with a man-up goal from Navarez at the 8:28 mark, also assisted by Reihing. With 1:18 remaining in the quarter, Reihing put up his second goal of the game, aided by Elijah Gamber, to tie the score at four.

The Lions added a goal with four seconds remaining in the half to retake the lead. The first three goals of the second half went to MSJ to give the visitors an 8-4 lead.

Gamber scored a second goal with 7:22 remaining in the third quarter with an assist from Kevin Ventura. After a pair of MSJ goals, Navarez hit paydirt again for an unassisted score with 4:54 left in the quarter.

Trailing 10-6 heading into the final frame, Gamber and Reihing both added a goal in the last quarter.
