RICHMOND – The Earlham College women's soccer team will be looking to build on a late-season resurgence in the 2021 season as the Quakers return to Matlack-Messer Stadium for their 2022 campaign.
THE SCHEDULE
The Quakers will begin the season at Adrian College on September 1 before welcoming Eureka College to Matlack-Messer the following Saturday. After battling Spalding at home, Earlham will compete in the Quaker Bowl at Wilmington College on September 13.
The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference slate begins with Hanover College on September 28 at the Panthers. The Quakers then welcome Mount St. Joseph University and Defiance College to Matlack-Messer in the first week of October. After road trips to Rose-Hulman and Bluffton, the Quakers return to Richmond for Homecoming weekend on October 15.
The schedule ends with two home games against Transylvania and Anderson sandwiching a road trip to Manchester.
THE PLAYERS
Tess Cunningham and
Eva Lyon led the Quaker offense last season with four goals each. Both players return for their senior season in 2022. The duo combined for 39 shots on goal last season and started all 15 games.
Senior
Jenna Hoeh is expected to anchor the defense this season. In 2021, Hoeh started all 15 games for the Quakers and contributed one goal and three assists to the offense.
PRESEASON POLL
The Quakers were picked to finish in seventh place in the preseason coaches poll with 28 points. The Spartans of Manchester University also received 28 votes in the poll. Hanover College was tabbed to win the conference championship with 77 votes and five first-place votes, closely followed by Mount St. Joseph with 73 selections and three first-place votes.
The Quakers finished the 2021 season with a 3-1-1 run in the final five games and missed the HCAC tournament by one spot in the final standings.
THE COACHES
Lydia Harvey was named head women's soccer coach after the 2021 season where she served as interim head coach. Harvey is joined this season by
Padgett Gustavson who was previously the assistant coach for the men's soccer program.
