RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's soccer team began its 2022 season with a 3-2 win against Asbury University in Matlack-Messer Stadium on Thursday evening.
The Quakers struck first with a goal by
Conner Kimball in the eighth minute of play. Kimball was sent long on a through ball from
Quentin Berry past the Eagles back line for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper.
The Eagles capitalized on a corner kick opportunity less than 10 minutes later for an equalizing score.
Earlham notched its second goal of the game in the 31st minute to retake the lead. Berry took a was set up for a shot deep in Eagle territory which was blocked away.
Andre Moriel gathered the rebound and hit the open score. The Quakers led 2-1 going into the halftime break.
Asbury recorded its second goal in the 63rd minute of play.
As the sun started to set over the Richmond sky,
Caleb Wilgen put the Quakers in the lead for good with a 71st-minute score with help from another blocked shot by Berry.
Berry led the Quakers with three shots on the evening.
Tyler Smith recorded five saves in his win between the pipes.
The Quakers will continue the Quaker-Raven Classic with a 5 pm matchup with Berea College in Matlack-Messer Stadium tomorrow.
