LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Earlham College field hockey team lost a double-overtime battle at Transylvania University on Sunday afternoon 2-1.
The Quakers fall to 0-4 on the season.
The Pioneers tallied a goal in the 11th minute of play to take the lead.
After a slow offensive start, Ealrham led the Pioneers in penalty corners 9-5 in regulation, and outshot the home squad 9-7 in the final three quarters.
With two minutes remaining in regulation,
Regan Seeman played in a penalty corner that was fielded by
Meredith McGraw. McGraw took a shot that was deflected by the emerging Pioneer defenders. Undeterred, McGraw collected her rebound and shot a goal from the right side of the arc to tie the game and force overtime.
EC had three penalty corners and one shot in the opening overtime period, but Transylvania ended the game on a penalty corner goal after nearly 71 minutes of competition.
McGraw led the Quakers with five shots and three on goal.
Alyssa Johnson also recorded multiple shots with two, both on goal.
Rachel Alma collected six saves in goal.
Earlham will return to action on Wednesday afternoon at Denison College. The Quakers defeated the Big Red in their last matchup on a penalty shootout. The game is slated for a 4:40 start.
