Volleyball sweeps Asbury at home

RICHMOND – The Earlham College volleyball team committed just six attacking errors during a sweep of Asbury University in Druley Performance Gym on Saturday afternoon. 

Earlham attacked at a .425 clip for the match and posted 34 kills en route to the sweep. 

EC improved to 7-7 on the season. 

Maria Young and Liv Kyrk led the offense with nine and eight kills respectively and the duo combined for four errors on the day. 

Erin Wagner, who was honored during pregame for reaching 2,000 career assists last week, dished out 20 assists and had one service ace. Jen Shamel, who was also honored before the contest for her 1,000th career dig, led the back line with nine digs. 

Sydney Fuller scored a game-high three aces and had four kills with no errors. 

The Quakers began the first set with two 5-point runs to lead 12-6. Earlham scored a 7-point run later in the set to lead 21-9, with six points in the run coming from kills. EC scored 14 kills in the set with only four errors for a .357 average. 

The Quakers operated with efficiency in the second set by posting zero errors with 11 kills. The Eagle offense was at its best in the second frame with its highest hitting percentage of the match at .281. 

Earlham controlled the third set with only three kills from the visitors in the set. After taking a 7-5 lead, the Quakers went on a 19-2 run to control the final frame. 

Earlham will be back in action on Friday for its final match before the conference slate begins on Saturday.
