GAMBIER, Ohio – The Earlham College women's basketball team fell to Kenyon College in a 48-44 nailbiter on Tuesday evening.
The Quakers fell to 2-3 on the season.
Abby Parsons led the Quakers in scoring with 12 points. The freshman went 5-for-10 on field goals.
Alexis Gibson brought down a team-high eight rebounds, and scored 10 points.
Both teams struggled to find the net in the first quarter with only 15 total points. The Owls led after the first frame 8-7.
Kenyon scored five straight points in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Parsons set the tone for a Quaker run with a 3-pointer at the 5:21 mark of the quarter. Earlham then scored an 11-2 run to lead 20-17. Parsons capped off the half with a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Earlham had a 9-4 run through the first eight minutes of the third frame to lead 32-24. Kenyon pieced together a four-point run to conclude the quarter.
Trailing 32-29 heading into the fourth, Kenyon scored a 9-3 run in the opening five minutes, the Owls led 37-35. Gibson tied the score at 41 with a 3-pointer at the 2:54 mark, the Owls then scored four straight.
Willow Runyon Hit a 3-pointer from the right side with eight seconds remaining, but the Owls hit their free throws down the stretch.
Earlham will go back to HCAC play next Wednesday at Anderson University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm.
