Men's soccer scores win against CUC

RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's soccer team began its 2023 season with a 2-1 win over Concordia University Chicago in Matlack-Messer Stadium on Friday evening. 

The Quakers open the season with a 1-0 record for the second consecutive season. 

Quentin Berry put Earlham on the board in the 13th minute of play with a penalty-kick goal. The senior placed his shot in the lower-right corner to easily beat the Cougar goalkeeper on the play. 

The scoring continued in the 24th minute with Nic Wilson putting his head on a cross by Matthew Katamba in front of the Concordia goal. 

The Quakers carried a 2-0 lead into the halftime break, and Concordia fought back with a score on a long shot in the 53rd minute. 

Earlham saw chances to score in the final minutes of play, with two shots bouncing off the goalpost in the final 10 minutes of action. 

The Quakers outshot the Cougars 13-11 on the evening, but had less shots on goal (5-7). 

Duncan Jordahl started the game in goal for EC, and collected four saves in a clean half of play. Tyler Smith entered the game after halftime and collected two saves. 

Wilson led the Quakers offensive efforts with three shots, two of which were on goal. 

Earlham continues the Quaker/Raven Classic tomorrow at 5 pm against The University of Cincinnati-Clermont College in Matlack-Messer Stadium.
