NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team recovered from a 2-0 deficit to win in five sets against Baldwin Wallace to open the Muskingum Tournament on Friday.
Caylee Brandes led the offense with 11 kills on the evening.
Skyler Murray also hit double-digit kills with 10, and a .176 attack percentage.
Ava Walters and
Sydney Bleyle combined for 35 assists, with Walters leading the way with 19.
Lauren Newcomer recorded 26 digs as the Libero.
Earlham had no answer for the Yellow Jacket's offense in the opening set, and allowed a .400 hitting percentage from BW. The Quakers scored 10 kills in the set, but fell 25-15.
Baldwin Wallace also excelled offensively in the second set on its way to a 25-19 win. The Yellow Jackets committed just two errors in the frame, and attacked at a .278 clip.
Earlham got back on track in the third set, the Quakers had just three offensive errors, and took control of the match midway through. Leading 17-15 in the set, the Quakers scored a 5-1 run. A kill by
Maria Young ended the set at 25-21.
Earlham jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set four before the Yellow Jackets put together a run to tie the score at five. Earlham had two aces in the frame, and recovered from an 8-1 run by the Yellow Jackets midway through.
The Quakers used a 4-0 run to lead 6-2 early in the deciding set. Later in the set, Earlham scored a second four-point run to take a 10-5 lead. With the Quakers leading 14-12, a service error by BW gave the win to Earlham on the evening.
The Quakers will continue the Muskingum Tournament tomorrow with the hosts att 11 am.
