JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Earlham College volleyball team concluded the Illinois College Tournament with a 1-1 showing on Sunday against Illinois College and Concordia Chicago.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 1 ILLINOIS 3 (13-25, 25-12, 22-25, 28-30)
Three Quakers scored double-digit kills in match one with
Maria Young,
Liv Kyrk, and first-year
Caylee Brandes all hitting 11 or more in the match. Kyrk led the squad in hitting percentage with a .321 clip, and three blocks.
Sydney Bleyle led at the net with 27 assists, while
Ava Walters contributed 12 assists.
Lauren Newcomer led the backline with 15 digs, while Brandes followed closely with 12.
As a team, the Quakers hit four serving aces, and eight blocks.
The Blues capitalized on 11 attack errors from the Quakers in set one. Earlham quickly rebounded with a .464 team hitting percentage in set two, and only one error on offense. With the lead 2-1 heading into the fourth set, Illinois outlasted the Quakers with a 30-28 score in the final frame of play.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 3 CONCORDIA CHICAGO 2 (25-20, 14-25, 12-25, 25-21, 15-10)
The Quakers won their second matchup of the day in five sets to Concordia Chicago.
Young and Brandes led EC in match two with eight kills each in the match.
Bleyle dished out a team-high 20 assists with three service aces, Walters recorded 15 assists.
Akiko Takjima led the back line with eight digs.
Earlham will be back in action on Tuesday at Albion College. The match is slated for 7 pm in Albion, Mich.
