TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team pulled off a five-set win over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon to improve to 3-2 in conference play with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
Anniyah Harrington led the Quakers offensively with 17 kills and a .269 hitting percentage. Harrington also scored two assists and six digs.
Caylee Brandes recorded 15 kills and three blocks.
Ava Walters, who recently tallied her 1,000th assist, had 25 sets with two aces and 18 digs.
Sydney Bleyle recorded 19 assists.
Madison Bizjak led the Quaker back line with 31 digs and one ace.
Addison Piatt collected 20 digs.
The Engineers took set one after hitting 17 kills with zero attack errors for a .436 attack percentage. Earlham rebounded with a 10-2 run in the second frame to contribute to a 16-8 lead.
The hosts responded with a 19-7 run to begin set three. On set point, the Quakers rallied with a 6-0 run, but the Engineers won the set on a kill.
After an 8-0 run to lead 8-3, Rose-Hulman allowed the Quakers to get hot with a 6-1 run. The Quakers then scored a 9-2 run to lead 21-14. Harrington ended the set with a kill after a 3-1 Quaker run.
In the final set, Earlham jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Leading 9-7, the Quakers went on a 6-1 run to end the match. Earlham hit at a .25 clip in the final frame while forcing a negative percentage from the Engineers.
Earlham continues play on Wednesday evening at Transylvania University. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
