RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team opened the 2024 season with a 14-9 loss to the University of Olivet on Saturday afternoon.
Dillon Fischer started the season on the bump, and threw 5.1 innings with six hits and eight strikeouts. As a team, the Quaker pitching staff recorded 11 strikeouts.
Quin Adelson recorded two hits, two runs, two RBI and a stolen base in his debut game for Earlham.
Ian Bullis scored two runs and two RBI on one hit, he also stole one bag.
The Comets scored six runs in the opening two innings.The Quakers countered in the fourth inning with a two-RBI double by Adelson. He scored later in the inning on a single by
Mac Moore.
Bullis added a fourth run in the bottom of the fifth inning after a ball put in play by
Max Fries.
Leading by just two in the top of the sixth inning, the Comets posted five hits and eight runs.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Bullis went from second to home on a wild pitch that was unsighted by the Olivet catcher. In the eighth inning, the Quakers got five walks, and scored two runs on them. Bullis beat out a double-play ball to first base, and recorded two RBI for the final two runs of the game.
Earlham will take on Olivet again tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm.
