RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team scored a win in its home opener against Heidelberg University on Wednesday evening in Darrell Beane Stadium.
The Quakers improved to 3-1 for the best start to a season in program history.
Robert Gift was the most active Quaker on offense with 10 shots on the evening, the sophomore placed four on goal and scored once. He also recorded the only assist of the day for Earlham.
Braden Greeno kept the Quakers in contention with 12 saves and only two goals allowed.
Ben Adkins led the defense with two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Heidelberg took the lead early in the first quarter, and held the lead until after halftime.
With under two minutes remaining in the third quarter,
Ryan Polack swung around the back of the cage to find space and score. On the following faceoff, Gift picked up the ground ball and carried it nearly uncontested to the right side of the Student Prince goal for the score.
Heidelberg tied the game with 10:27 remaining in the fourth quarter. With 7:52 remaining in the contest, Gift hit
Justin Boritzki deep on the left side of the Quaker offense for a one-on-one shot with the goalie. Boritzki then slipped the ball through to the upper-left corner of the cage.
The Quakers will have a short break before games resume on March 9 in Ashland, Wisconsin for spring break action.
