LEESBURG, Fla. – The Earlham College softball team dropped a pair of games to begin the spring break trip on Monday.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 3 MONMOUTH 15 (5 innings)
Michaela King threw three complete innings with five hits and three earned runs allowed.
Ariel Clarkston scored a run on one hit and a walk.
Tiffany Sowder brought in two RBI on one hit.
The Scots plated eight runs in the opening frame, with two of them unearned. As a team, the Quakers had five errors defensively.
In the top of the second inning, a single by
Faith Butler and a walk by
Ariel Clarkston put two runners on base before Sowder knocked a two-RBI double to left field.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 1 MARYWOOD 2 (8 innings)
Morgan Cooskey threw her second complete game of the season in the circle for the Quakers with just one earned run and 13 strikeouts on the day. Cooksey allowed just four hits, and went three innings before allowing a hit.
Butler scored the only run of the game for Earlham with one hit.
Emmerie Stump hit a two-out triple in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Quakers took the lead in the bottom of the second inning after
Keely Hubbard hit a sacrifice bunt to the left side. The Marywood third baseman missed the throw to first, which allowed Butler to come home from first base on the play.
Earlham then led until the top of the sixth inning when the Pacers scored a runner from second base on a single up the middle.
In the top of the eighth inning, Marywood scored the free runner on a double to center field.
The Quakers are due up for two more games tomorrow at Sleepy Hollow. Earlham will take on Ohio Wesleyan University at 10 am, and Curry College at 12:15 pm.
