LEESBURG, Fla. – The Earlham College softball team continued play at THE Spring Games in Florida with a pair of losses on Tuesday.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 8 OHIO WESLEYAN 13
Tatum Rickert started the game in the circle, and threw 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Faith Butler recorded the final 3.1 innings.
Emmerie Stump went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, as well as two RBI.
Bo Shelton went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
The Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after a Stump double brought Shelton home from first base. With three consecutive singles in the bottom of the frame, OWU took a 2-1 lead.
Trailing 8-2 in the top of the fifth inning, Shelton hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring
Ashley Lewis home from third base. Later in the inning, Stump scored
Malaya Tanglao on a triple to right-center field.
The Bishops plated another run in the bottom of the fifth frame.
With the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning,
Michaela King hit an RBI-single to right field to score
Ariel Clarkston. Lewis then scored an RBI on an infield single. Shelton allowed two more runs to come home on an RBI-groundout after a throwing error in the Bishop's infield.
Leading 9-8, Ohio Wesleyan added four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 2 CURRY 3
Morgan Cooksey played her third complete game of the season with seven innings pitched, one earned run on 10 hits, and three strikeouts.
Shelton went 3-for-3 with a double. Stump went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Curry scored one run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings. The Colonels plated a run on a dropped fly ball in the second inning. In the fourth inning, the Quakers nearly turned a double play with an out at home plate, but the Colonel runner was called safe after a dropped ball. In the fourth inning, Curry scored after a fielding error in the Quaker infield.
Trailing 3-0, Earlham loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning with no outs. Stump then hit an outfield single for
Bella Schatko to come home. The Quaker runners then advanced on a wild pitch for a second score. With one out and the bases loaded, Earlham hit a lineout into a double play to end the game.
Earlham will have the day off in Florida tomorrow, and return to action on Thursday at 10am against Juniata College.
