LEESBURG, Fla. – The Earlham College softball team split a pair of games in its final day in Florida for spring break.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 10 KNOX 2
Morgan Cooksey threw game one with a complete six innings. The freshman allowed just five hits and two earned runs while scoring 11 strikeouts.
Bo Shelton recorded three hits and scored two runs.
Ashley Lewis went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, Cooksey hit a two-RBI single to get the scoring started.
Keely Hubbard then added to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning.
Knox scored both of its runs in the top of the third after getting three two-out hits.
In the fourth inning,
Cierra James laid down a single through the left side of the Knox infield to bring
Nikki Alston home for her second run.
In the fifth inning, Earlham loaded the bases with no outs.
Ariel Clarkston hit a single to the third baseman to bring two runs home. Lewis then hit another run home with an outfield single. Hubbard scored an RBI on a hit by pitch before the Prairie Fire got the last out of the inning.
Lewis scored her second RBI of the game on an outfield single in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded, Knox walked in the last run of the game for an early ending.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 0 NICHOLS 2
Tatum Rickert threw a complete six innings in game two with seven hits and two earned runs allowed. She struck out seven batters.
Hubbard, along with
Michaela King and
Kymara Kennedy recorded the only three hits of the game for the Quakers.
Nichols scored two runs on a double in the fifth inning.
The Quakers will return to Indiana over the weekend, and square off against Centre College in the Ellie Bewley Softball Stadium on March 20.
