FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team capped off a weekend series at Franklin College with an 11-6 win on Sunday afternoon after a five-run ninth inning.
Tied 6-6 heading into the last frame,
Ian Bullis hit a one-out triple to right field, and swiftly scored on a passed ball. The Grizzlies committed three straight fielding errors which allowed Earlham to load the bases for a grand slam by
Max Fries with one out.
Dillon Fischer threw 6.1 innings with the start, and recorded six strikeouts with five earned runs on six hits.
Phoenix Guzzi earned the win on the mound with two shutout innings and one strikeout with only four hits.
Fries led the Quakers with five hits on the day, including the 43rd double of his career, placing him second in program history. The super senior also scored two runs and brought in six RBI. Bullis went 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI, three runs scored, a double and a triple.
Quin Adelson and Mitchel Roether also had milti-hit days for the Quakers.
Earlham took a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning before two runs scored for the Grizzlies. The Quakers then pulled out a 6-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Franklin recovered most of its deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, with three runs scored on three hits.
The Quakers are set to host Hanover College next weekend for a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 pm in Sadler Stadium. Earlham will then get the Panthers for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 pm.
