Baseball swept by Hanover

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team was swept by Hanover College in an HCAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Sadler Stadium.

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 8 HANOVER 14

Dillon Fischer went 5.1 innings in the start, with four earned runs and five strikeouts. Braeden Lewis threw 2.2 innings in relief with one strikeout. 

Offensively, Phoenix Guzzi had a grand slam and led the team in RBI. Jonathan Jimenez went yard and was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. 

The Quakers fell to an 8-0 deficit before Jimenez hit his solo homer with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Hanover plated two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. 

Trailing 10-1, Guzzi launched his grand slam in the bottom of the seventh. Earlham added three runs on three hits, and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth. 

Leading 10-8, Hanover homered three times in the ninth inning. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 2 HANOVER 14

David Lally started on the bump and threw four innings with seven hits and seven strikeouts. Charlie Ouellette threw the final two innings in relief. 

Ian Bullis went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Max Fries went 1-for-1 with two walks, and a home run. 

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Bullis hit an infield single to bring Jimenez home to score. Fries hit a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning, trailing 4-1.

The Quakers will host Wilmington College on Tuesday night for the final non-conference matchup of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm.
