RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team took a series win against Manchester University with a doubleheader split on Saturday.
The Quakers improved to 10-12 on the season.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 9 MANCHESTER 1
Kyle Jeffries pitched a complete game win with no earned runs and three hits allowed. The freshman fanned four batters and walked just two. The Quakers had two pitchers go a complete game in the series.
Reece Zonts had three hits on offense with one RBI.
Max Fries went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBI.
Manchester got its only run of the game on a sacrifice bunt in the top of the sixth inning.
Trailing 1-0, Mitchel Roether tied the game with a solo homer to right field in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Earlham then plated eight runs on six hits in the bottom of the eighth frame. The Quakers earned three walks with one error, and left three on base at the end of the inning.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 2 MANCHESTER 7
Phoenix Guzzi started game two on the day and threw four innings with four earned runs and three strikeouts.
Dillon Fischer threw five innings out of the bullpen with no earned runs and six strikeouts.
Quin Adelson led the team at the plate with two hits, including a double, and two RBI.
Manchester scored five runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. They then added two unearned runs in the seventh and eighth inning.
Trailing 7-0 in the final frame, Adelson hit a two-out double to score Fries and
Sean Jeffries for the Quakers.
Earlham will continue play on Wednesday at home against Wabash College with a single game. First pitch is slated for 6 pm in Sadler Stadium.
