RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team split a weeknight doubleheader with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Tuesday in Ellie Bewlie Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 2 RHIT 0
Tatum Rickert tossed 5.1 innings of the shutout to earn the win in game one. Rickert allowed just two hits while striking out eight.
Morgan Cooksey earned her second save of the season after throwing 1.2 innings out of the bullpen with two strikeouts and no base runners allowed.
Emmerie Stump scored the only hit of the game for the Quakers with a single in the fourth inning. The Quakers also earned four walks in the inning that resulted in two runs scored.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 1 RHIT 2
Cooksey started in the circle for game two, and threw a complete seven innings with two earned runs and three strikeouts.
The Quakers fared better offensively in game two with six total hits.
Keely Hubbard went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
The Engineers hit a solo homer over the monster in left field in the top of the second inning. They then scored in the top of the third on an RBI-groundout.
Nikki Alston reached base on an error by the first baseman in the bottom of the fourth inning which rolled into shallow right field to advance the runners an extra base, scoring Hubbard.
Bo Shelton represented the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh inning, and hit a deep fly ball, but was caught just short of the warning track for the final out of the game.
Earlham will continue play on Thursday at Kenyon College for the makeup doubleheader with the Owls. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
