RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team swept Adrian College 3-0 in Druley Performance Gym on a stormy Friday evening.
Caylee Brandes scored 12 kills with a massive .435 hitting percentage, the sophomore also recorded one block.
Ava Walters dished out a team-high 21 assists with one kill.
Sydney Bleyle tallied 19 assists with one service ace.
Madison Bizjak led the back line with 19 digs.
Lauren Newcomer and
Meg Kobman collected 13 digs each. Newcomer also recorded one kill and one ace.
The Quaker defense held the Bulldogs to a -.05 attack percentage in the opening set, forcing 10 errors on just eight kills. Earlham scored 13 kills with a .25 hitting percentage. The Quakers took a 5-1 lead early in the set. A 7-2 run later in the set gave the hosts a 19-11 lead.
The Quakers scored 18 kills in set two, but the Adrian offense rebounded with 14 kills in a 28-26 set. Trailing 8-3, Adrian scored a 13-4 run and led the set 16-12. Earlham retook the lead 22-21 on three straight points. An Adrian kill gave the Bulldogs a 26-25 lead. The Quakers then responded with a pair of kills and a service ace.
Leading 8-4 in the third set, Earlham scored six straight points. A kill by
Liv Kyrk ended the match with a 25-18 score in the final set.
Earlham's second match of the evening, originally scheduled for Otterbein, was suspended in the first set due to a power outage. The Cardinals were leading 20-19 in the first set.
Brandes recorded five kills in the set, and was attacking at a .625 clip with a solo block.
Skyler Murray scored three kills.
The Quakers continue play on Tuesday evening against Wittenberg University. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm in Druley Performance Gym.
