BEXLEY, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team took down Capital University in four sets on Wednesday evening in Columbus.
Skyler Murray led the Quaker offense with 18 kills and a .224 attack percentage. The senior also had two blocks and seven digs.
Caylee Brandes scored 12 kills with an ace and three blocks.
Ava Walters dished out 29 assists and hit two aces, while
Madison Bizjak collected 25 digs with two aces.
The Quakers posted a .303 attack percentage as a team in set one, and out killed the Comets 15-7 in the frame to win 25-14. Earlham then committed just one error in the second set, and scored 17 kills for a .400 attack percentage. The Comets also improved in set two with 13 kills. Capital tied the set at 24 before
Addison Piatt and Murray delivered back-to-back kills for the set win.
Earlham dipped offensively in set three with seven errors, and fell 25-22 for Capital's only set win of the evening. The Quakers took control of set four early with a 12-4 run to start the frame. Capital strung points together, and trailed 21-17 before a four-point run by Earlham ended the match.
Earlham out blocked Capital 9-3 on the evening.
The Quakers take on the Case Western Reserve Tournament this weekend in Cleveland. Earlham is set to take on Allegheny on Friday, and Mount Union and Case Western on Saturday.
