CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Earlham College volleyball team won a five-set thriller against Allegheny at the Case Western Tournament on Friday evening.
Skyler Murray led the Quaker offense with 14 kills and three blocks.
Caylee Brandes scored 12 kills and had six blocks.
Ava Walters dished out a team-high 27 assists and scored one ace.
Madison Bizjak led the back line with 19 digs.
Lauren Newcomer scored three aces and collected 16 digs.
Sydney Bleyle tallied 16 digs and 19 assists.
The Quakers posted a .0 attack percentage in set one with just seven kills in a 25-21 set loss. Earlham then took set two 25-18 after scoring 12 kills with only four errors.
The Gators took set three 26-24 after a 9-3 run in the middle of the set. Brandes hit a kill to tie the set at 24, but Allegheny then scored two straight points. The Quaker defense forced Allegheny into 11 errors in set four for a 25-19 Quaker win.
In the deciding set, Earlham jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Allegheny responded to tie the set at 12 after a 6-1 run. The Quakers won off of two straight attack errors by the Gators.
Earlham continues play in the tournament tomorrow at 10 am against Mount Union.
