RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team saw a fourth-quarter comeback fall just short in a 69-65 loss to Anderson on Saturday.
Jay Bright scored her 1,000th career point, putting up 15 on the day with nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Bright becomes the 14th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. The feat was most recently achieved by Hannah Franklin in 2017.
Berkley Shelton led the team with 21 points and 10 rebounds for her second consecutive, and fourth double-double of the season. Josie Tradel scored double digits for the first time as a Quaker with 12 points.
Earlham began the game with a 10-2 scoring run, aided by three steals and a block by the Quaker defense. After a pair of Earlham scores to start the second quarter, Anderson went on a 19-4 run and took a 24-20 lead. The Ravens shot 6-for-7 in the run, including 5-for-5 from 3-point range. A 12-2 run by the Quakers gave Earlham a 35-29 lead with just over one minute remaining in the half, Anderson then hit two 3-pointers in 32 seconds to tie the game at halftime.
Anderson began the second half on a 10-4 run, the Quakers then responded with a string of 10 straight points for a 4-point lead. With the game tied at 51 with 2:34 remaining, Anderson held the Quakers scoreless while scoring four. Trailing 65-56 midway through the fourth quarter, Earlham went on an 8-0 run to trail by just one point in the final minute. As time wound down, the Ravens went 4-for-4 on free throws, with a missed 3-pointer by Earlham with six seconds left.
The Quakers travel to Transylvania University on Wednesday evening for a 7 pm matchup with the Pioneers.
