RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team was triumphant over Transylvania University with a five-set win on Homecoming in Druley Performance Gym.
Addison Piatt did it all for Earlham with 17 kills, a .378 hitting percentage, 19 digs and one ace. Anniyah Harrington scored 18 kills with 13 digs and two blocks.
Gabby Gerardi led the front line with five blocks.
Ava Walters dished out 29 assists while
Sydney Bleyle tallied 23 assists.
Madison Bizjak led the back row with 21 digs.
Sheila Waruingi served up a team-high four aces with four digs.
As a team, the Quakers scored 60 kills with a .220 attack percentage. Earlham also notched nine team aces and eight team blocks.
The Quakers hit 28 total kills in the first two sets and controlled the pace of play to two set wins. Transylvania led a set for the first time in the third frame, scoring a 5-3 run to open the set.
Trailing 19-14, Earlham scored four straight points to trail by one. The Pioneers responded with two kills, and Earlham scored on a service error. The Pioneers then scored four straight points for a 25-19 set win.
The visitors swung at a .469 clip in the fourth frame, committing just one offensive error on 16 kills. Transylvania led 20-16, and scored three kills in the final eight rallies.
In the fifth and final set, Waruingi scored a pair of aces to help the Quakers go on an 8-2 run. Earlham led 13-9 before the Pioneers surged for three straight points, but the Quakers secured the win on an attack error by Transylvania.
The Quakers travel to Anderson University on Wednesday for a 7 pm match at the Ravens. With today's win, the Quakers sit in the top spot in the conference, tied with Franklin and Mount St. Joseph at 2-0 in HCAC play.
