FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 3-2 win over Franklin College on Wednesday evening.
Anniyah Harrington led the Quaker offense with 18 kills, a .319 hitting percentage, two aces, and a team-high 24 digs.
Addison Piatt scored 18 kills with two aces, 12 digs and a .207 hitting percentage.
Ava Walters dished out 22 assists, while
Sydney Bleyle tallied 19 assists. Quaker libero
Madison Bizjak brought in 23 digs with three aces.
As a team, the Quakers scored 56 kills with 10 aces, 10 blocks, and a .198 hitting percentage.
Trailing 18-15 in set one, Earlham went on a 6-1 run to take the lead, and control of the set. The Quakers then won the frame on a 5-2 run. Earlham then began the second set with four straight points, but the Grizzlies rallied to go on an 11-4 run right after. Leading 19-18, Franklin scored a 5-1 run to tie the match.
Earlham held the Grizzlies to a .087 hitting percentage in set three, and scored an 8-2 run to take a 22-18 lead in the frame. Franklin closed in to trail 24-23, but Earlham closed out the set with a kill by Harrington.
Franklin began set four on an 8-2 run, but the Quakers responded with a 6-1 run to trail 9-8. The Grizzlies got hot again with a 5-0 run before Earlham posted a 5-0 run to match. Franklin won the set 25-22 off of a kill.
The Earlham offense hit its stride in set five, swinging .278 with six kills and one error. Earlham jumped out to a 12-5 lead before bringing in a 15-7 set win to claim the match.
The Quakers continue HCAC action on Saturday at Hanover College at 2 pm. At 6-0 in conference play, the Quakers are locked in a tie for the lead in the HCAC standings with Mount St. Joseph. The two teams are set to battle in the final regular season match on November 8th in Druley Performance Gym.
