BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Earlham College men's soccer team scored four goals on 25 shots in a high-scoring loss at Bluffton University on Wednesday afternoon.
Bluffton scored its first goal in the seventh minute of play, and added to the lead with a pair of goals in the 33rd and 34th minutes.
Orin Gentner knocked one in for the Quakers in the 39th minute of play on a header off of a corner kick by
Luke Hamaker.
Trailing 3-1 at halftime, Earlham scored again in the 51st minute when
Grant Courtad connected on a back-post shot on a cross from
Mason Paul. The Beavers quickly responded in the 53rd minute, but Earlham struck again in the 55th minute of play on a goal by
Steven Lewis with a through-ball by
Jude Fossum.
Ahead 4-3, Bluffton added to its lead in the 67th minute and the 82nd minute. Hamaker hit paydirt on his own goal in the 87th minute of play with a high volley on a cross from Paul.
Six total goals were scored in the second half of play, with 30 total shots in the frame.
Of Earlham's 25 total shots, 11 landed on frame. Lewis and Paul each took four shots, and put two on frame.
Ryland Wamsley collected a career-high 16 saves in goal.
Earlham will host Transylvania University on Saturday for Homecoming in Matlack-Messer Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
