Women's basketball sends off seniors with win over Manchester

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team propelled itself past Manchester University 71-64 on Senior Day in Druley Performance Gym.

Prior to tip-off, Earlham recognized Amari Bradford, Jay Bright, Bailey Gibson, Willow Runyon, Madison Ruwersma and Alexei Van Schaik for their time spent with the Quaker women's  basketball program. 

Jay Bright led the Quakers with a game-high 28 points, while also snagging seven rebounds and three steals. Willow Runyon scored 14 points with two assists and five rebounds. Berkley Shelton led the team in boards with 11. 

As a team, the Quakers shot 47.4% from 3-point range.

After an early Quaker lead, the teams were tied three times in the first quarter. Manchester hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left in the frame, but Earlham drove down and earned a pair of free throws with one second remaining to take a point back. 

Trailing 22-21, Manchester pulled the first notable lead of the contest with a 9-0 run, scoring exclusively on free throws. The Quakers ended the half with a 4-0 run to trail 30-26 at the break. 

The Spartans scored a pair of free throws early in the third, but the hosts responded with a 7-0 run to take a 33-32 lead. Shelton gave Earlham a 45-43 lead with 1:56 remaining in the quarter before a 4-0 end of the frame for Manchester. 

Runyon set the Quakers up with a 51-47 lead after sinking a three with 8:14 remaining in regulation. After Manchester tied it with 4:54 remaining, Bright hit threes on back-to-back possessions to kick off an 11-3 run for the Quakers for a 70-62 lead with just under two minutes remaining. 

The Quakers have just one game left in the 2024-25 season, a home matchup with Rose-Hulman on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm in Druley Performance Gym.
