FORT PIERCE, Fla. – The Earlham College baseball team took a 9-7 loss to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Monday morning in Florida.
Casey Blevins started on the bump, tossing 5.2 innings with seven hits and three earned runs. The freshman fanned six.
Noah Rosato led the Quaker offense with five RBI, on two hits, both homers, and a pair of walks. Batting leadoff and playing third base,
Noah Wagster recorded one hit, one run scored, and three stolen bases with a walk.
The Mariners scored the first run of the game off of an RBI-double in the bottom of the first inning. Earlham then took the lead with six runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Quakers took four walks and an error to score two runs and load the bases. After a Mariners' pitching change, Rosato pulled a grand slam to right field for his second deep shot of the year.
The Mariners responded with seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trailing 8-6 in the top of the seventh inning, Rosato pulled another homer to right field.
The Quakers continue play with their final game of Spring Break tomorrow against Penn State Behrend at 10 am.
