Softball splits on Tuesday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Earlham College softball team split a pair of games on day two of its Spring Break trip to Florida. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 0 MEREDITH 5

Tatum Rickert threw a complete seven innings in game one, fanning seven batters and issuing no walks. Rickert allowed eight hits, and three earned runs.

Offensively, Emmerie Stump went 1-1 as a pinch hitter with a double. 

The Avenging Angels tallied two runs in the top of the first inning, and added three in the top of the sixth frame. Keely Hubbard recorded a leadoff single for the only Quaker hit until the fifth inning. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 3 FONTBONNE 1

Morgan Cooksey threw a complete seven-inning win with five hits and one earned run. The sophomore tallied four strikeouts. Batting leadoff, Macie Ferguson went 3-4 with an RBI. Stump tallied two doubles with one RBI and a stolen base. Malaya Tanglao hit two doubles, and scored a run.

After Kylie Rayburn led off the third inning with a walk, Ferguson recorded a single, and Stump brought the run home with a double to left field. The Quakers continued in the fourth inning with a leadoff double by Tanglao, followed by an outfield single by Ferguson to score the run. With a runner on second, Ashley Lewis hit a single to right field for an RBI and a 3-0 Quaker lead. 

After putting two runners on base with just one out, Fontbonne scored its only run in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

The Quakers get tomorrow off, and continue their Spring Break action on Thursday with a pair of games against Marywood and Suffolk.
