RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team began HCAC competition with a split against Rose-Hulman on Saturday afternoon in Sadler Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 1 ROSE-HULMAN 11 (8 Innings)
Hayden Scalf threw five innings to start the game with eight hits and six earned runs allowed, while striking out five.
Braeden Lewis threw two innings in relief with two strikeouts and one earned run.
Sean Jeffries went 1-1 with a double and a run scored.
Noah Rosato doubled, and had one RBI.
Jeffries led off the bottom of the first inning with a ground rule double to right field. He moved to third on a groundout by
Ian Bullis, and Rosato brought him home with an RBI-double down the left field line.
The Engineers tied the game in the top of the third inning, and took the lead off of a homer in the fifth inning. RHIT scored three runs on three hits in the fifth, and three runs on two hits in the eighth.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 8 ROSE-HULMAN 5
Kyle Jeffries started game two, and went 5.1 innings with two strikeouts, and five earned runs. Jeffries left in the sixth with a tie game.
Christopher Snider earned his third win of the season with one inning pitched, and one hit allowed.
Garret Odey earned the save with two innings, four strikeouts, and three hits.
Mitchell Roether led the Quakers with four RBI after a grand slam in the first inning.
Noah Wagster went 4-4 with a double, two steals, and two runs scored.
The Quakers put their first three batters on base, and set up Roether for an opposite-way Grand Slam to right field. The Quakers scored three hits, and batted around the order in the first inning. After a two-out single in the third, Wagster stole second, and came home on a double down the left field line by
Brendon Gibson.
Trailing 5-0, Rose-Hulman scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, and three in the sixth to tie it.
Dylan Rieck broke the tie in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out double to score Wagster and Bullis. Rieck then came home on an outfield single by
Jonathan Jimenez.
The Quakers take on Hanover College on Monday afternoon to continue HCAC play. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
