RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team suffered a 10-inning loss to Asbury University in Sadler Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Entering in the second inning,
Casey Blevins threw seven innings with three hits and one earned run while fanning nine.
Sean Jeffries went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two walks,
Quin Adelson earned three RBI with a double in the fifth inning.
Asbury plated three runs on two hits in the top of the first inning. All baserunners in the inning came with two outs.
Neither team scored until a big four-run inning in the fifth by Earlham.
Noah Wagster earned a two-out walk, and scored on an outfield single by Brendan Gibson. A single by Jeffries loaded the bases, and Adelson slapped a long double down the left field line to bring all three Quakers home. The game was delayed for 45 minutes in the top of the eighth inning after a loss of power in Sadler Stadium.
In the bottom of the eighth, Earlham loaded the bases with two outs, but an untimely strikeout stranded all three runners on base. Asbury capitalized on its opportunity, scoring a two-run double in the top of the ninth after a leadoff walk.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth,
Reece Zonts delivered an RBI-single as a pinch hitter to tie the game. The Eagles plated one run on three hits in the top of the 10th, and left two runners on base after three consecutive strikeouts by
Cayman Huntsman.
The Quakers depart for Fort Pierce, Fla. this weekend for Spring Break action. Earlham will start the trip off taking on Heidelberg University on Saturday at 10 am.
