RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College men's lacrosse team pulled off an 8-7 win over Wilmington College in the Quaker Bowl Rivalry game with a 58th-minute goal by
Robbie Gift on Saturday.
Elijah Gamber scored his third career hat trick, netting three goals on eight shots. Gift led the squad in shots, taking 13, with two goals.
Izreal Santisteban scored his first career goal with two shots.
Liam McGlynn went 6-15 in faceoffs, and led the Quaker defense with 10 caused turnovers and six ground balls with two assists.
Ethan Upton collected five GBs, and scored once. In goal,
Brooks Pierce collected three saves.
Gamber opened the game with a man down goal in the first quarter,
Ryan Polack also scored in the opening frame as Earlham trailed 3-2 after 15 minutes.
The Quakers outscored Wilmington 4-1 in the second frame, with three straight goals from Upton, Gamber and Gift to take a 5-3 lead. After Gamber's third goal, Wilmington scored twice in the third quarter to trail 7-6.
The visitors tied the score with just under eight minutes remaining in regulation, outshooting Earlham 7-3 in the frame. With 1:13 left on the clock, Gift came through with a big gift in the form of a game-winning goal for the Quakers. Wilmington won the following faceoff, and drew a penalty from the Earlham defense, but managed two unsuccessful shots in the final minute.
Earlham led in shots 37-27, committed less turnovers with a 37-23 mark, and posted a higher clear percentage than Wilmington.
The Quakers continue Spring Break on Tuesday against Beloit College in Darrell Beane Stadium.
