RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team was swept by Hope College on Tuesday afternoon in Ellie Bewley Stadium.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 0 HOPE 9
Tatum Rickert started game one in the circle, throwing three innings with one earned run, two strikeouts and five hits.
Kamdyn DePew threw the final four frames. The Quakers tallied two hits in game one, one each from
Mackenzie Harvey and
Bo Shelton.
The Dutchmen put up four runs on four hits and two errors in the first inning. Hope also scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning. The Quakers threatened in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with two outs, but held hitless in the frame.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 2 HOPE 5
Morgan Cooksey threw three innings to start game one, and tallied four strikeouts with three hits and no runs.
Shelby Messer had three strikeouts on six hits in five frames, but allowed one earned run.
Keely Hubbard went 3-4 with a double off the Maroon Monster and two RBI.
Ashley Lewis scored two runs with one hit.
Both teams were held scoreless until Hope scored on a pair of two-out singles in the sixth inning. Earlham matched with a leadoff single by Lewis in the bottom of the sixth, who came home on a double by Hubbard.
In the top of the eighth inning, Hope plated three runs on two hits and two errors, including back-to-back throwing errors on sacrifice bunts, right before a two-run triple by the Dutchmen.
The Quakers are slated to host Hanover College for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 pm in Ellie Bewley Stadium.
