Softball splits with Hanover in HCAC action

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College softball team continued HCAC competition with a split against Hanover College in Ellie Bewley Stadium on Sunday afternoon. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 1 HANOVER 3

Tatum Rickert threw a complete game in the circle in game one, striking out 10 in tough conditions with one earned run on six hits. 

Emmerie Stump went 1-3 with a double and one RBI. Macie Ferguson tallied one hit, one steal and one run scored. 

Hanover put three runners on base in the first inning, but was shut down by a pair of bases-loaded strikeouts by Rickert. The Panthers did get on the board first in the third inning with three runs on two hits and two errors. 

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Ferguson reached on a leadoff single to the pitcher. Stump then doubled to left field off of the Maroon Monster to bring the run home and avoid a shutout. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 7 HANOVER 0 

Morgan Cooksey threw her second complete game shutout with seven innings, no runs, and seven strikeouts. 

Mackenzie Harvey led the offense with two hits and two RBI. Ashley Lewis went 2-4 with two runs scored and a triple. Shelby Hill went 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. 

Lewis hit a one-out triple in the bottom of the first inning to set up an RBI-groundout by Stump. The Quakers added to the lead with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lewis hit a leadoff single, scoring on an RBI-hit by Hill. Hill then scored on an infield single by Keely Hubbard for an RBI. 

Bo Shelton hit a two-out double to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning, and came home on a single by Harvey to cap off the scoring with a 7-0 lead. 

The Quakers Travel to Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm. Conference play continues on Saturday with Anderson University coming to Ellie Bewley Stadium for a 1 pm doubleheader.
