LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Earlham College baseball team continued its HCAC weekend with a split at Transylvania University on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 7 TRANSYLVANIA 3
Case Blevins started game one on the mound, and tossed six innings with one earned run on seven hits.
Garret Odey then scored a three-inning save with three strikeouts and one baserunner.
Mitchell Roether went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
Jonathan Jimenez scored two hits, with one double and two runs scored with one steal.
Reece Zonts had two hits with one double, two RBI and one run scored.
The Pioneers scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first and second innings to lead 2-0. Earlham struck back in the third inning off of an RBI-double by Zonts.
After hitting a leadoff double down the left line,
Sean Jeffries scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the fourth inning, Zonts then gave the Quakers a 3-2 lead with an RBI-groundout in the fifth inning.
With a leadoff triple in the bottom of the sixth inning, Transylvania scored its final run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right field.
With the bases loaded and one out, Roether hit a two-run ground rule double down the left field line to put the Quakers back on top. Jeffries then tacked on another run with an RBI-single.
Leading 6-3, Earlham also scored with an RBI-single by
Noah Wagster up the middle.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 1 TRANSYLVANIA 8
After earning the save in game one, Odey started game two, tossing 2.2 innings with four earned runs and two strikeouts.
Christopher Snider,
Cayman Huntsman and
Jack Briney all threw a scoreless inning out of the Quaker bullpen.
Roether led the Quakers in game two with two hits, including a solo homer. Wagster also tallied two hits, with a triple.
Roether put the Quakers ahead with a solo homer in the first inning, but the Quakers were shut out after the deep shot.
Transylvania plated four runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning, and four runs on four hits and an error in the sixth inning.
The Quakers hit the road again next weekend for a three-game series at Manchester University. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 pm on Friday, with a 12 pm doubleheader start on Saturday.
