Baseball splits with Manchester on Friday

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Earlham College baseball team split a doubleheader at Manchester University on Friday afternoon to begin a weekend series. 

GAME ONE: EARLHAM 7 MANCHESTER 8

Kyle Jeffries tossed the first game of the day, throwing six innings with 11 hits and six earned runs with three strikeouts. Dillon Bandi threw a hitless inning, and Garret Odey was tagged with the loss with 1.1 innings, one earned run and two strikeouts. 

Noah Rosato went 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Quin Adelson also had two hits, with a home run, a double and one RBI. 

After a leadoff single by Jonathan Jimenez, the Quakers loaded the bases with one out, and Dylan Reick scored an RBI with a hit-by-pitch. Earlham added a second run with a solo homer by Rosato in the third inning. 

Manchester got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, plating two runs on three hits, all singles. The Spartans added three more runs with a homer in the fifth inning. 

Adelson launched a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning, and Noah Wagster gave the Quakers the lead with a three-run double in the top of the seventh. A Manchester home run tied the game at six in the bottom of the seventh. 

Rosato brought in a run with a single to center field in the top of the eighth inning, and the Spartans scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the ninth for the win. 

GAME TWO: EARLHAM 16 MANCHESTER 9

Casey Blevins improved to 5-0 on the season with 6.1 innings pitched, eight hits and two earned runs with four strikeouts. Braeden Lewis closed out the game with 1.1 innings, one hit and one run with one strikeout. 

Reece Zonts went 4-6 with two RBI and two runs scored. Wagster scored three hits, including his first career home run, five RBI and one run scored. Rosato scored three hits with another homer and three RBI. 

With runners on first and second and two outs in the top of the first inning, Rosato put the Quakers ahead on a deep shot to center field for three runs. Zonts added another run with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. 

Manchester scored once in the bottom of the second, before Wagster went deep in the top of the fourth to put the Quakers up 6-1.

Leading 7-3, Earlham put up four runs on five hits in the top of the eighth inning. Earlham had three RBI-hits in the inning. The Spartans responded with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the eighth inning to trail 11-9. The Quakers then scored five runs on three hits and an error in the ninth frame, including a three run homer by Roether.

The Quakers take on Manchester at 1 pm tomorrow to decide the series.
