FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Franklin Invitational with a 3-1 win over Kalamazoo, and a 3-1 loss to Wheaton.
MATCH ONE: EARLHAM 3 KALAMAZOO 1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14)
Addison Piatt got the day started with a team-high 14 kills and only two errors for a .444 hitting percentage in the opener. She was also a back line contributor with 14 digs. Anniyah Harrington scored 12 kills with 15 digs.
Caylee Brandes swung .296 with 12 kills and three blocks.
Ava Walters dished out 24 assists with two aces, and
Sydney Bleyle added 12 assists.
Madison Bizjak led the back row with 16 digs.
As a team, the Quakers hit at a .237 clip with 56 kills and seven blocks.
Earlham committed eight hitting errors in the opening set, and allowed 15 kills from the Hornets to contribute to the set loss. After the set-one loss, Earlham hit .304, and held the Hornets to .110 offensively.
MATCH TWO: EARLHAM 1 WHEATON 3 (25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 19-25)
Brandes led the offense in match two with 11 kills and a .200 hitting percentage. Bleyle recorded a team-high 18 assists, with 15 for Walters.
Harrington led the back line with 19 digs and 11 kills. Bizjak collected 17 digs, and Piatt tallied 12.
As a team, the Quakers scored 46 kills with a .170 hitting percentage and six blocks.
Earlham is set to host Capital University on Wednesday at 7 pm in Druley Performance Gym.
