RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College junior
Madison Bizjak became the 11th player in Earlham volleyball history to record 1,000 career digs in a sweep of Capital University on Wednesday evening.
Bizjak led the Quakers with 25 digs and three aces as the Quakers improved to 10-5 on the season.
Ava Walters tallied a team-high 19 assists with one ace and nine digs.
Sydney Bleyle dished out 11 assists.
Anniyah Harrington led the offense with 10 kills and a .275 attack percentage with just two hitting errors.
Addison Piatt and
Caylee Brandes both scored six kills.
Gabby Gerardi led at the net with seven blocks. As a team, the Quakers scored nine blocks.
Leading 6-4, Earlham scored a 6-1 run in the first set, but Capital came back with a 7-1 run for a 13-12 score. Earlham then strung an 8-3 run to lead 21-15, and fended off a late surge from the Comets for a 25-20 set win.
Bizjak tallied her 1,000th dig midway through the second set.
The Quakers jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the second set, and led 20-14 before a run of six straight Comet points tied the set. Tied at 22, Piatt scored a kill, and Earlham put up two blocks to win the set 25-22.
Capital took a 5-3 lead in set three, but the Quakers came back with six straight points to lead 9-5. Trailing 23-17, Capital went on a 5-1 run, but
Maliyah Buford called game on a match-ending kill.
The Quakers travel to Trine University on Saturday for a 2 pm match at the Thunder.
