RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's soccer team started conference play with a 1-0 record after a 2-1 win over Manchester University in Matlack-Messer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Mariana Mendez put the home squad ahead with a goal in the 38th minute of play, assisted by
Sammy West on a through ball down the right side.
After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime,
Mallory Smith took a ball deflected by the Spartan defense into the penalty area for a second score.
Manchester scored a consolation goal in the 86th minute after intercepting a pass in the Quaker defense.
Smith led the Quaker attack with five total shots, and four on goal.
As a team, the Quakers outshot Manchester 30-4.
Liz Godfrey collected one save in goal.
Earlham is set to continue conference play on Saturday at Anderson University at 1 pm.
