RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's basketball team lost a tough battle with Kenyon College as the Owls scored a last-second basket to take a 48-47 win in Druley Performance Gym.
Trailing 43-39 with just under five minutes left in regulation, the Quakers went on a 5-0 run to take the lead back. Kenyon scored a 3-pointer to lead 46-44 with two minutes left, and Shelton responded with a layup to tie the game. The teams went on four scoreless possessions, and Wright drew a foul with just three seconds remaining. The junior made one of the free throws, and Kenyon advanced the ball to its offensive half. The Owls then managed to get off a shot from the right side of the free throw lane that went in to give the visitors a one-point win.
Berkley Shelton scored her sixth double double of the season, and set new career highs in both rebounds and blocks. The junior put up 14 points, and led the Quakers with 20 boards and five blocks.
Amari Wright scored a team-high 21 points with four assists and six rebounds.
The Quakers return to conference action on Wednesday evening as they travel to Berea College for a 7 pm matchup.
